    What YenPocket Does

YenPocket is an offline-first currency conversion utility designed for international travelers and residents navigating Japan. The app focuses on zero-lag calculations and reliable offline use:

    30+ Currencies Offline

Converts Japanese Yen against USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, SGD, and 25+ other currencies using cached rates.

    Japan Tax Calculator

Calculates 10% standard goods tax, 8% food and beverage tax, and duty-free shopping thresholds.

    Pro Camera Scanner

Scans price tags and menus live on-device using Apple VisionKit text recognition without saving photos.

    ECB Reference Rates

Refreshes daily mid-market rates from the European Central Bank via Frankfurter whenever connected to the internet.

    Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting

How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new or reset device?

Open YenPocket, tap the Settings icon in the top corner, and tap “Restore Purchases.” Apple will verify your App Store receipt with RevenueCat and re-enable your Pro features without charging you again.

Does YenPocket work underground or without cellular roaming?

Yes. All calculations, tax-free math, the shopping basket, and the camera price scanner run entirely on your phone. The app ships with a rate table and caches the latest fetched rates locally so you can use it in subway stations, basements, and on airplanes.

Why does the app rate slightly differ from my credit card transaction?

YenPocket displays the official daily reference mid-market rate published by the European Central Bank (via Frankfurter). Most credit card networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and ATM operators add their own foreign exchange conversion markup (typically 1.5% to 3.0%).

Are my scanned camera images saved or uploaded?

No. The Pro scanner uses Apple's on-device VisionKit engine to detect numerals in the camera feed. Video frames are analyzed in real time, never written to disk, and never transmitted over the internet.
