    Stepping off a long-haul flight into Japan, your body is likely confused, tired, and craving salt and comfort. Fortunately, you don't need to wait until you negotiate train lines and check into your hotel to get a world-class meal. Japan's major international airports—Narita, Haneda, and Kansai—host excellent, highly competitive outposts of some of the country's most famous ramen brands, offering top-tier quality just steps from the arrivals gate.

    Narita International Airport (NRT)

    Terminal 1: Chuka Soba Tomita

    Located in the Narita Dining Terrace on the 4th floor of Terminal 1, this branch of Tomita allows you to sample Japan's most famous tsukemen without travelling to Chiba. The thick, cold noodles are made from locally milled wheat, dipped into a dense, smoky, pork-and-seafood gravy. It's heavy, deeply satisfying, and the ultimate jet-lag cure.

    Terminal 2: Ippudo and Light Options

    If you land in Terminal 2, you will find a branch of Ippudo, which serves reliable, crowd-pleasing Hakata-style tonkotsu. They also offer lighter shoyu variants and plant-based options, making it a safe choice for families and travellers with diverse dietary needs.

    Haneda Airport (HND)

    Haneda Airport Garden: Rokurinsha

    In the newly developed Haneda Airport Garden shopping complex, connected directly to the international terminal, you can find Rokurinsha. Famous for establishing the modern tsukemen boom, their dipping broth is rich, fishy, and packed with umami. The airport location often has shorter lines than their flagship branch at Tokyo Station.

    Terminal 3: Setagaya (Classic Tokyo Shoyu)

    For those departing or arriving via Terminal 3, Setagaya in the Edo Ko-koji dining area serves a superb, classic Tokyo-style shoyu ramen. The broth is light, brewed from chicken and dried niboshi (sardines), offering a comforting, clean start to your trip.

    Kansai International Airport (KIX - Osaka)

    If you are landing in Osaka, head to Kamukura in Terminal 1.
